Invention & Technology Promotion, Licensing and Transfer
This is a brief guide for how to use this site in relation to the promotion, licensing or transfer of your invention or technology.
For inventors:
You will find an item called 'My invention' in your 'Create content' section (this will very soon be made more visible in relevant areas, including your 'My account' area). You should ensure that you complete the various fields correctly:
Title: This should be obvious, but it is the name of your invention or a brief title to describe your invention or technology.
Invention Type: This is where you should enter the industry sectors to which your invention applies, so that anyone searching for inventions of a specific type can easily find yours.
Invention Status: It is important to get this right. You should list exactly the current status of your invention (pre-prototype, working prototype, seeking investment, etc). This text field is dynamic, meaning that when you start typing it searches the database for similar terms already entered by other users. You should give it time to find any matches, as these will often give you a clue as to the best term to choose. You can enter multiple values, separated by commas, such as 'working prototype, seeking investment, IPR for sale, IPR for licence'. So, the 'Current Statu' field can be used to indicate what stage your invention has reached, what you are looking for and what is available.
Description: You should give enough information to let people know what your invention is and what it does, but you should obviously take care not to give away too much information. Pictures can be included by using the 'insert/edit image' link in the text editor.
Audience: If you wish your item to be listed only in your group, be available to all members for viewing or both then you can select the relevant option in this section. It might be that you keep this fairly private for invitation-only members of your group until such time as you wish to release details to the public, at which time you can edit your item and change the audience.
Looking for new ideas, products or technology?
Firstly, you can search the listing published by inventors, as mentioned above, and contact those that are of interest by sending a private message.
You can also publish a 'Wishlist' item. This is a specific requirement for something that you need to be developed. It is not for publishing a requirement for a time travel machine so you can find out the winning lottery numbers. Use this feature if you have a genuine requirement - perhaps you know a market well, have good contacts and know a problem that needs an innovative solution. By publishing your 'Wishlist' item you can be contacted by inventors that can potentially develop the solution. This could lead to paid development or partnership.
In due course we will release additional functionality, such as enhanced automated matching of requirements to existing inventors and published inventions and technology. If you have suggestions, questions or additional ideas for how you would like this to work then please discuss below.
